Associate Professorship, English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a relatively new field in Norway. Oslo and Akershus
University of Applied Sciences (HiOA) is extending its current EAP capability with one Associate Professorship.
The EAP unit is organized within HiOA’s Learning Centre and Library. Our main role is to support the current institutional strategy of promoting, enabling and expanding the international research activity of its staff, as well as functioning as a unit of expertise in multilingual teaching and learning in higher education. Additionally, we are responsible for carrying out research related to our activities. The EAP unit is currently involved in developing a Unit for Academic Language and Practice in collaboration with HiOA’s Learning Support Unit and the Diversity in Pedagogical Practices Unit.
The new staff member will be responsible for developing the EAP teaching and research portfolio in the fields of EMI and CLIL. He or she will also be expected to carry out research on multilingual communicative competence in higher education in Norway and internationally.

HiOA tests educational qualifications for the position as Associate Professor in connection with interviews. General criteria for appointment of a position as Associate Professor are stipulated in Section 1-2 of the Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions (Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts. Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete HiOA’s program for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.
In addition to interviews, testing and a trial teaching session will be a part of the application process.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, Associate Professor and position code 1011. Salary NOK 482 800 – 613 500 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
