Professor or Associate Professor - Pharmacology
UiO ref. nr 2017/1158
The Institute of Clinical Medicine offers a full time position as Professor (SKO 1013) or Associate Professor (SKO 1011) in Medicine (Pharmacology) at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Oslo.
We invite applicants with ambitions for research and teaching in Pharmacology. The research section at the Department of Pharmacology has currently three research groups focusing on cardiac pharmacology, neuropharmacology and pharmacotherapy including comparative effectiveness and new targets. The section has access to well-equipped research facilities for in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo pharmacology. The Department of Pharmacology constitutes a large pharmacology environment, which also includes Section of Clinical Pharmacology at the Oslo University Hospital. The co-localization with clinical and research departments at Oslo University Hospital and Institute of Basic Medical Sciences also offers great opportunities for collaborative and translational research activities.
The successful applicant is expected to strengthen the field of pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, either by establishing a new strong research group on a separate topic, or by initiating activities which complement existing research at the department. She or he should be an active researcher with a strong publication record, an extensive experience in research and supervision, and a proven ability to attract external funding. Applicants are expected to undertake research relevant to pharmacology and contribute actively to collaborative projects.
The applicant should hold a PhD or equivalent and be an active researcher in pharmacology or a closely related discipline. It is considered an advantage if the applicant has an educational background in pharmacology such as (but not limited to) medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine or odontology. Ability to teach medical students broadly within the major fields of pharmacology is needed, and considerable teaching experience is an advantage. An educational background in medicine is particularly advantageous since the curriculum to a considerable extent is clinically oriented. High ambitions and quality of teaching, research and communication are expected.
