Tenure-Track Professor in Operations Management
The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management conducts world-class research and provides impactful education on the creation and transformation of technology-based business. We are one of Europe’s leading university departments in the field of technology entrepreneurship, focusing especially on operations and service management, strategic management and venturing, and entrepreneurial leadership. In total, we are more than 120 persons working in the department, including 20 professors, over 30 senior and postdoc researchers, and a large number of doctoral students. The faculty at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is well known for its publications in leading journals in the core research areas of operations management, strategy and entrepreneurship. Our department has a strong, internationally recognized profile in investigating relevant, real-life operations management problems with a rigorous, analytical approach. In the recent ranking of empirical operations and supply chain management research by the SCM Journal List, Aalto University was ranked number one in the Nordic countries, the fifth best university in Europe, and number 30 in the world. The department conducts empirical research in close collaboration with leading technology firms in Finland and Europe.
The tenure-track professorship in operations management is open to outstanding individuals with strong research and teaching interest. Ideal applicants enjoy intellectual leadership, and strive for academic excellence and inspire people around them. The call is primarily open on Assistant Professor level. However, exceptional candidates at other levels will also be considered.
The tenure-track professorship in operations management covers key research areas in empirical operations and service management, ideally contributing to our department-wide focus on the creation and transformation of technology-based business. We welcome applicants with a genuine interest in conducting high-quality empirical operations management research with a multi-method approach, especially with data analytics and quantitative methods. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, management of business processes, information and resources in demand-supply networks, innovation for digital operations in multi-actor platforms, networked production systems, service operations management, as well as management of complex projects and product-service systems.
We offer the candidate the opportunity to do research in a vibrant and active international research community. We offer a broad range of opportunities for conducting cross-disciplinary research across Aalto University and in collaboration with the Finnish industry, in particular with firms in technology industries and healthcare, as well as actors in the startup ecosystem and government, and in international research projects. The positions are located in the main campus of Aalto University in Espoo (Campus). The positions come with a competitive salary, a teaching load of two courses per year, and a start-up package of research funding.
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure-track system are expected to carry out and supervise scholarly research, to follow the advances of their field, to provide high quality academic education, and to participate in service to the Aalto University community and to contribute to broader societal discussions in their field.
The applicants should hold a doctorate in a discipline relevant for this position or receive the degree before the beginning of the contract. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and activity in the scientific community.
