Professorship (W 2) Teaching English as a Foreign Language

The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The position will be based in the School of Humanities. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

• Your areas of expertise encompass empirical research into language learning, with a particular focus on the initial stages of English language acquisition, specifically in the context of primary education (primary school, transition to secondary school and lower secondary level). It is expected that applicants will possess demonstrable qualifications and have made substantial contributions to research and teaching. Such experience should be in at least one of the following fields: literary and cultural learning, bilingual teaching, and/or digitality.
• You have an international network, experience in acquiring third-party funding, and a commitment to participating in interdisciplinary research projects within and outside of the school.
• In terms of teaching, you provide an attractive range of courses for the school’s degree programmes, with a particular focus on challenges specific to English language education at primary school. You demonstrate an openness to adopting and utilising contemporary pedagogical approaches.
• You will be responsible for the teaching degree programmes, with a particular focus on English at primary schools, and will participate in their further development.
• Within the field of English language education, you will be involved in the development of joint research and teaching projects, including the realisation and supervision of the PrimA international school placement.
• You have an interdisciplinary orientation and are willing to work at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Language Teaching and Learning (Interdisziplinären Zentrum für sprachliches Lehren und Lernen, IZSLL).

QUALIFICATIONS

• Completed university degree in English (Master of Education, state examination in the teaching degree programme or equivalent)
• Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable.
• Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
• Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated by excellent performance in the appointment procedure

You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, teaching experience, international cooperation and successful acquisition of third-party funding. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
