You will support the process integration team and enhance efficiency of the team operation.

The Platform & Operations Efficiency Team (POET) has responsibility to drive speed of learning in imec’s 200 & 300mm Si pathfinding and platformization activities and to create and maintain stable modules and flows. This needs to happen for imec’s research test vehicles and critical customer projects in many interesting fields like logic, memory, interconnect, 3D, Si photonics, sensors, MEMS and life science applications.

R&D project engineers support projects for the Platform Efficiency Dept, as well as the Defect Analysis & Reduction team. You will primarily work with Process Integration teams for Front End & Back End (FEOL/BEOL) as they drive projects.

What you will do

  • The primary role is to support the needs of the process integration team members, and to enhance the efficiency of the team operation. 
  • You will be responsible for coordination and implementation of process flows on wafers in imec’s advanced 300mm FAB.  
  • You will define and discuss process splits with the process integration engineers, process step development engineers, implement the splits into the process flow, and take care of the cycle time follow up during processing in the imec pilot line.  
  • You will monitor the quality of metrology requests from teams within the department, and help summarize the results. 
  • You will work to understand measurement techniques/tools and provides feedback and support to researchers/engineers when needed.  
  • You will support logistical requests from teams within the department.  
  • You will be setting up and monitoring inline SPC for projects in the department.  
  • You will also be responsible for maintaining stable baseline flow documentation.  
  • You will communicate and interact with the other groups within the department, as well as team members across imec.  
  • You will report your results internally to process integration engineers, project  leaders / program managers, department director and within multi-functional meetings, and externally to customers.  
  • Onsite presence required is 70% minimum.  Possibilities for working from home after an initial training period. 
  • Please note that if the team grows as expected over the next several months and beyond, the role may require shift regime. At that time, you would be required to work 1 out of 2 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) on day schedule. Working during weekends will be compensated accordingly (both monetary and recuperation days).

Who you are

  • You have a bachelors degree in science or engineering (Electrical, Computer, Chemical, Material Science, or related areas).  Master’s Degree holders will be considered.  
  • Experience outside of academia is required, in semiconductor process, device development, or process integration. Target experience level is minimum 1-3 years.  With sufficient growth and the right candidate, this role could evolve to a process integration engineering role. 
  • You are enthusiastic, and actively look for solutions to problems, take initiative, and are driven by delivering results on time.  
  • You are detail oriented, and capable of following multiple smaller projects at the same time.  You have strong organizational skills and show the flexibility to change between different projects according to changing priorities.  
  • You like looking at data, drawing conclusions and propose relevant follow up actions. Experience with data analysis tools (JMP, other) is desired. 
  • You are a good communicator: you listen actively; you build bridges where needed and you communicate clearly and effectively.  You are persuasive and firm, while keeping a constructive attitude.  
  • Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary. 
  • Please note that this position is based in Leuven, Belgium. You either live in Belgium or are willing to relocate. Relocation support is provided by imec.
