- with focus on research

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB), Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, a leading academic research centre that prioritizes high-impact, long-term projects.

CMB researchers have the goal to carry out ground-breaking research across different areas of cell and molecular biology and regularly publish their results in top-ranked journals. The department is located in Biomedicum, an interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna

Description of the subject area

We are seeking a professor in tissue biology, preferably with particular expertise in research on fibrosis- and tissue regeneration. Fibrosis and tissue regeneration represent two opposing aspects of the wound-healing process, where  fibrosis limits the restoration of functional tissue after injury. This limitation is particularly critical in the adult mammalian central nervous system, where lesions lead to scar formation at the expense of tissue regeneration. Understanding how fibrosis is linked to regeneration failure may enable the development of new therapeutic strategies. The research should focus  on non-regenerating organs, including but not limited to the mammalian central nervous system.

Your mission

You are an internationally recognized scientific expert in tissue biology, preferable with focus on fibrosis and regeneration . You will lead a research team and have delegated responsibilities, including that for work environment. The work also involves teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The position requires that you contribute to general administrative duties when called upon, and collaborate locally, nationally, and internationally. You are also expected to continuously and effectively apply for funding through external grants.

It is furthermore meritorious that you have demonstrated the ability to

  • conduct research leading to significant, breakthrough discoveries in tissue biology, with a particular focus on fibroblast function, fibrosis and tissue regeneration, preferably with an emphasis on the mammalian central nervous system.
  • successfully lead national and international research collaborations.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
