The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) are currently accepting applications for a full-time position as a Postdoctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive review of innovative technological and management options to support climate change mitigation and adaptation actions in agriculture production systems across Africa. The overarching goal is to identify best-bet and best-fit technological and management options to support effective climate action in Africa, and to provide valuable insights to guide the development of projects aimed at scaling promising options. 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a PhD Agriculture, Environmental Science, or related studies. The ideal candidate should showcase a capacity for transdisciplinary research and an understanding of how mitigation efforts should be complemented by robust adaptation strategies to enhance resilience in vulnerable communities. Previous experience in collaborative research teams that synthesize knowledge from diverse fields will benefit this position.

The selected postdoctoral researcher should be well-versed in global climate action discussions and able to communicate effectively with scientists in related fields. A willingness to integrate perspectives from multiple scientific domains is highly desirable. Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review on technologies and management options supporting climate action in agricultural systems in the Global South.
  • Map the best-bet technological and management options across different African contexts.
  • Explore different agricultural innovations and provide insights on opportunities to increase their adoption at scale. 
  • Play a crucial role in the development and writing of grant proposals aimed at securing funding for climate policies and financial mechanisms, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Efficiently coordinate activities with fellow team members within the CFP, fostering collaboration and synergy. 
  • Participate actively in research, training and the supervision of visitors, interns, graduate students, undergraduate students, and volunteer workers as needed.

Criteria of the candidate:

  • Ph.D. in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences or related fields.
  • Background in agronomy, forestry, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or related areas.
  • Excellent knowledge of global initiatives and climate agreements.
  • Capacity to work on multiple projects simultaneously, with the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
  • Capacity to initiate and manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Superior communication skills, including a demonstrated record of presentations to professional organizations and publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proven supervisory skills and interest in mentoring students and other personnel.
  • Aptitude for teamwork, problem-solving, and collaborative work that transcends disciplinary boundaries.
  • Excellent English proficiency.
  • The ability to understand French is desirable.
  • Organizational dexterity and proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple goals.
  • Positive attitude and a good sense of humour.

Contract Type:

CDD fixed-term contract of 3/4 years.
