Project assistant (prae-doc/PhD)

40 hours/week, for 18 months

Technische Universität Wien, generally referred to as TU Wien, is located in the heart of Europe, a place where one can experience cultural diversity and international life. The Security & Privacy Group is seeking highly-motivated PhD students to work on a cuttingedge research projects at the intersection of computer security and artificial intelligence. The position offers a unique opportunity to investigate how emerging AI techniques are transforming the cybersecurity landscape.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is initially limited to 18 months, with the possibility of extension up to a total of 4 years.

Tasks:

  • Research on novel AI-based solutions against cyberthreats.
  • Collaboration with international team of top researchers in AI and security.
  • Contribution to teaching and supervision of students.
  • Publication of research findings at top international venues in the field.

Possible research focuses include:

  • Analysis of emerging threats due to advances in AI.
  • Research on AI-based defenses against cyberthreats.
  • Research on Explainable Learning (XAI) techniques for security.
  • Research on AI-related privacy threats.
  • Research on attacks against AI-based systems.

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or in a related area.
  • Very good knowledge and skills in the area of machine learning.
  • Very good knowledge and skills in the area of computer security.
  • Background in explainable learning (XAI) and/or generative AI is a plus.
  • Very good communication skills in English, both written and oral.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3.578,80/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
