About the SnT...

The University of Luxembourg is seeking to hire a highly motivated and an outstanding researcher in the area of Joint Communications and Sensing (JCAS) for 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) for its Interdisciplinary Centre of Security and Trust (SnT), within the Signal Processing and Communications (SigCom) research group, led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas.

SnT carries out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with governmental, industrial and international partners.  SnT is active in several national projects funded by National Research Fund (FNR) and local industries, and international research projects funded by the EU FP7 program, H2020 program and the European Space Agency (ESA). The SigCom research group carries out research activities in the areas of signal processing for wireless communication systems including satellite communications and radar systems and is currently expanding its research activities in exploring several emerging use cases of next generation wireless communications systems.   Your Role...

The successful candidates are expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in the field of joint communications and sensing (remote sensing and/or PNT) for the next generation of non-terrestrial networks
  • Develop innovative solutions and algorithms for integrating communication and sensing capabilities by solving inherent challenges of the space-based or airborne networks
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team of researchers at SIGCOM to identify unexplored areas of potential breakthroughs in the field
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in satellite communication, signal processing, radar technologies, navigation algorithms, and related fields
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals for attracting funding through industrial, national, and European projects on the topic
  • Publish research findings in the prestigious peer-reviewed journals and present at relevant conferences
  • Contribute to different research projects, either coordinating technical contribution and/or preparing project deliverables
  • Eventually, help in the supervision of PhD students

  Your Profile...

  • A PhD degree in Telecommunication Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/engineering with a focus on wireless communications
  • Experience in signal processing for wireless communication algorithms
  • Proven knowledge of the optimization theory
  • Good understanding or willingness to learn the radar technologies
  • Sound publication track record in relevant international conferences and top journals in the related research areas (communications and/or sensing and/or PNT, IEEE Transaction publications are highly recommended)
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB. Python / TensorFlow or C/C++ are a plus but not mandatory
  • International experience is desirable
  • Experience of working with industrial projects or public funded research projects is highly desirable
  • Highly committed, excellent team-worker, and strong critical thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
