UNIVERSEH, European Space University for Earth and Humanity, is an alliance of seven universities from seven European countries focused on Space as a whole. Created in November 2020, it develops a novel approach of collaboration in the framework of the new initiative "European Universities" financed by the European Commission. We create new interactive higher education experiences for the academic community, teachers, and students, and for the benefit of society. The University of Luxembourg has been a member of UNIVERSEH since its inception and supports the initiative through various work packages.

UNIVERSEH programs train the next generation of Space and New Space experts in Europe and provide students with outstanding career prospects in the rapidly expanding field of new space in Luxembourg and abroad.

Your Role...

As a R&D specialist for this European Project, you will have an important role in developing, motivating, and guiding the use of digital opportunities in teaching & learning within UNIVERSEH programmes at the University of Luxembourg, in cooperation with our European partners. You will work closely with the academic staff of the University of Luxembourg involved in this project and address communicative, pedagogical, and technological needs and issues. You will play a crucial role in the production of digital services and media, with the overall goal of creating communicative and pedagogical input that brings added value to the staff and students of UNIVERSEH 20+ knowledge transfer schemes.

This may take the form of tasks such as:

  • Provide assistance to and ensure close cooperation with the academic staff and developing and improving educational materials through multimedia production in close collaboration with teachers
  • Collect, interpret, and analyse courses and knowledge-transfer research data and results, collected from the UNIVERSEH community through Moodle and provide advice on request or on own initiative
  • Write reports (quantitative and qualitative), in accordance with defined research requirements, formats, procedures and deadlines
  • Prepare, produce and/or finalise relevant material for the dissemination and presentation of project results, to project partners and/or students (documenting and communicating examples of innovative pedagogical practices)
  • Administer and develop an existing Moodle platform and take care of its content in cooperation with the project PI as well as involved academic staff, in Luxembourg and abroad
  • Collaborating with IT teams to implement updates and improvements as needed
  • Accompanying teachers in the implementation of online teaching modules

What we expect from you…

You have at least a bachelor's degree in education, computer science or an equivalent degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Education or related field and experience in developing web services and APIs with a focus on learning, ICT and/or media. You have documented experience in Web and/or Moodle development and administration meaning solid skill set in modern PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, web services and third-party API and LTI integration. You are knowledgeable of the functions and limitations of the Moodle Platform.

To maximize the results of your close collaboration with teachers, we value your pedagogical skills and personal qualities. Professionalism, autonomy, and initiative are essential in the role of an R&D specialist in this specific project joining technical development skills with pedagogical and communicative research parts. Some graphic design knowledge will be of advantage. Experience working in higher education institution would be desirable. Professionalism, autonomy, and initiative are essential in this role.

You have a keen interest in working with digital tools in higher education. In addition, we expect you to have experience in managing and publishing digital materials through various distribution channels and to have good communication skills in both English and French, both written and oral.

Established professional networks in relevant professional fields are an advantage.
