The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Media Informatics. The position will be based in the School of Electrical, Information and Media Engineering. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
The professorship covers the full scope of media informatics in research and teaching, with a particular focus on at least one of the following topics:
- Information retrieval, knowledge engineering, text and language processing,
- Human-computer interaction, user-centred system design, usability engineering,
- Mixed / augmented / virtual reality,
- Principles, methods, automatization and tools for the development of interactive web applications and web-based media systems,
- Generative AI in the context of media.
- As an internationally networked researcher, you should be able to contribute to current international research. The willingness and ability to cooperate in research within the faculty and at our university, e.g., the School of Humanities, the School of Human and Social Sciences, the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, The School of Art and Design and the School of Education as well as with leading national and international research institutions is a prerequisite.
- As part of the University of Wuppertal’s ‘Environment, Engineering and Safety’ profile lines, the professorship contributes to strengthening the school’s main research areas like “Artifical Intelligence, Data and Media Engineering”, “Digital Transformation” and “Mobility and Automotive”. Its topics are compatible with the interdisciplinary research approach of the University of Wuppertal in the ‘Interdisciplinary Centre Machine Learning and Data Analytics (IZMD)’ or the ‘Interdisciplinary Centre for Mobility and Energy (IZME)’ and in the university’s activity fields “Next Generation Learning, Teaching, Knowledge Transfer”, “Shaping Sustainable Societal Transformation” and “AI for Empowering the Future”.
- In teaching, the professorship is involved in the school’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, particularly in “Computer Sciences” and “Media Technology / Informatics“ but also in the specialisations “Electrical Engineering” and “Smart & Sustainable Systems”. You are open to modern teaching methods.
- We expect German language skills (level B2) or the willingness to acquire these within two years at the latest.
- Participation in academic self-administration is expected as a matter of course.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed degree (master or equivalent from university or university of applied sciences) in electrical engineering, information technology, computer sciences or a related discipline.
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable.
- Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure.
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, international orientation (e.g., stays abroad, international collaborations) and the independent acquisition, leadership and management of third-party funded projects.
