Description of the research activity:

Based on an analysis of the factors that currently hinder children from kindergarten onwards in developing basic mathematical skills and threaten to exclude them from further skills development in primary school, substantial learning environments are to be developed, tested, evaluated and optimized, in close cooperation with pedagogical specialists from the kindergarten and primary school of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol. The aim are substantial learning environments in accordance with the findings of current mathematics didactics. The aim is to develop theoretically and empirically validated didactic concepts, including materials for kindergarten and primary gradeteachers, in order to overcome or reduce the current manifest exclusion of a considerable part of children from even basic mathematical education.
