Doctoral fellow

YOUR JOB

  • You conduct research in the field of second language acquisition and didactics and prepare a doctoral thesis. In your research, you focus on the impact of using generative AI on the longitudinal development of writing skills in a foreign language (English). You investigate how individual differences affect the development of writing skills and the use of generative AI, and what the effects are of using generative AI on text characteristics.
  • You collect and analyze data (statistical processing).
  • You report on the results of your research in articles for (national and international) scientific journals.
  • You present your research at national and international conferences, symposia, and workshops.

Job profile

  • You have a master's degree in Translation, Interpreting, Multilingual Communication, Linguistics and Literature, or other relevant disciplines (e.g., psychology). The diploma requirements must be met by the date of appointment. In the case of a degree in a related discipline, please explain your experience with linguistic themes and analysis in a letter of motivation and/or CV.
  • You have a high level of proficiency in English (minimum CEFR C1-level). Proficiency in Dutch is recommended.
  • You work meticulously and can work both independently and in a team.
  • Familiarity with research on foreign language acquisition and conducting research (e.g., data collection) is a plus.
  • You have a talent for organization (e.g., planning data collection) and communication (e.g., interactions with participanrs, presentations).

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
  • Your contract will start on 1 September 2025 at the earliest.
  • The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by Team Personnel Administration based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
