Who we are

The materials and component analysis department (MCA) is an expertise center within imec with a two-fold objective. On the one hand it aims to support the device, materials, process and technology developments within imec by providing a materials characterization service enabling process control and fundamental understanding of these developments. Faced with the ever-increasing demands of next generation technologies, MCA also has the mission to continuously improve existing and/or develop new characterization concepts by exploring the underlying physics, developing new instrumental and data analysis concepts and advanced metrology approaches. Its portfolio covers the entire range of advanced characterization tools such as TEM, (TOF)SIMS, XPS, SPM, Raman, RBS, APT...

What you will do

As a R&D researcher, you will be responsible for advancing the field of (tip-enhanced) Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy at imec. Simultaneously, you will support the various research lines in imec and expedite our learning cycles with the provision of service measurements. Amongst your main responsibilities you are expected to:

  • Relying on your expertise you will drive and implement the R&D and service activities around optical spectroscopy at imec.
  • You stay abreast of the newest developments in this domain, and you will be responsible for translating the needs of imec’s programs into characterization solutions.
  • You build bridges to other groups and departments, will train like-minded peers and mentor students (interns, Master or PhD students) on a regular basis.
  • You disseminate your (research) results through different channels, both internally and externally, to peers, customers, and the broader scientific community.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will define the society of tomorrow.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in Physics, Applied Sciences, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent.
