KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as in architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.
The focus is on the realization of advanced light manipulation functions (e.g. spectrally controlled absorption, color conversion, light extraction and directed light emission) using photonic semiconductor nanostructures. Nanophotonic coatings with the desired optical functions are realized by nanostructure assemblies made from semiconductor nanoparticle composites, nanopillars, and nanodisks. The work involves electromagnetic modelling, nanofabrication (clean room environment), optical characterization, and proof-of-principle demonstration in III-Nitride LEDs. The doctoral student will have full access to relevant fabrication facilities, material and optical characterization set-ups, and device modeling tools.
Applicants must have or be about to receive an MSc degree in optics, photonics, applied physics, nanotechnology, electrical engineering, or related areas.
The applicant must have background in several of the following subjects: optics/photonics, nanotechnology, electromagnetism, photonic components, semiconductor physics, quantum mechanics, semiconductor devices –electronic and opto-electronic, scientific programming languages such as matlab.
The applicant must have strong academic credentials, written and spoken English proficiency, communication and team-work skills. Experience in one or more of the following - optoelectronics, optical spectroscopy techniques, photonic components will be considered as an advantage.
