Job description

At the Unit of Properties, within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, we are seeking a researcher with expertise in computational material science. The goal is to contribute to the development of novel structural materials for nuclear reactor applications.

This recruitment is connected to the research platform NuMaP (Nuclear Materials Platform) (numap.se). NuMaP connects KTH, Luleå University of Technology, Uppsala University, Linköping University and Chalmers with the nuclear industry in Sweden and is financed by the Swedish Energy Agency. The researcher will be part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers and students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made, and the degree must have been obtained within the last ten years prior to that date.
  • Research expertise and background in computational modelling of irradiation defects and interfaces using density functional theory methods.
  • Research proficiency, proved by having published peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals within the area stated under (2). 

Preferred qualifications

  • Applicants should have a doctoral degree related to the following research area: materials sciences and engineering with specialization to computational material science.
  • Experience with first-principles simulations using method, e.g., VASP, EMTO-CPA.
  • Experience with computational modelling of structural materials for nuclear reactors.
  • Documented experience in conducting research in at least two of the following areas: DFT modelling of irradiation defects, interfaces, and mechanical properties.
  • As a person, you have good collaborative abilities and work independently.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
