About the department/team

You will join the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology (FPT), Sweden’s leading academic environment for research and education in polymers, fibres, cellulose-based materials, and sustainable technologies. FPT combines fundamental science with real-world impact through strong collaborations with industry and research partners.

As part of the Fibre Processes and Technology division, you will work in an ambitious, interdisciplinary team developing a new class of electronically tunable cellulose-based membranes that enable adaptive, digitally controlled separation processes. The research is led by Assistant Professor Tobias Benselfelt and focuses on nanofibril-based materials, electrochemically controlled membranes, and digitalized separation processes. Job description

The position involves research within the DynanoNet project, including:

  • Conducting independent research in the project area.
  • Coordinating experimental activities in collaboration with a PhD student.
  • Presenting research findings at project meetings, workshops, and international conferences.
  • Maintaining project documentation and reporting project activities.

The successful candidate may also contribute to the supervision and mentoring of PhD and master’s students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science, electrochemistry, membrane science, or a related field. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills. English proficiency is essential for effective communication in an international research environment.
  • Strong scientific writing, presentation, and communication abilities.

Personal skills

To be successful in this role, you should be responsible, independent, motivated, curious, and well organized. You have strong collaborative skills and enjoy working in interdisciplinary research environments.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Research experience in one or more of the following areas: membrane science, electrochemistry, transport phenomena, nanofibrillar materials, cellulose nanofibrils, hydrogels, or filtration technologies.
  • Experience with electrochemical characterization techniques, including impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and/or chronoamperometry.
  • Experience designing and constructing experimental setups or devices.
  • A strong publication record demonstrating scientific independence.
  • Demonstrated creativity, innovation, and the ability to develop new research ideas.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.

Great emphasis will be placed on on personal skills and scientific independence, problem-solving ability, initiative, and the capacity to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.

About the employment
