A 3-year postdoctoral position is available in the Plant Health Group at Luke. The role involves studying the effects of agroecological measures promoting sustainable plant production on soil disease suppression through microbial activity.
This postdoc position is part of Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes in Finland. The programme is funded from the Finnish government's multi-annual research and development (R&D) funding plan. The programme recruits 85 new postdoctoral researchers to 12 Finnish government research institutes between 2025 and 2028. The aim of the Programme is to strengthen RDI competence in areas important to society and business. Postdoctoral researcher will conduct goal-oriented high-level research at the interface between the academic community, industry, and administration. The Programme supports postdoctoral researcher’s networking and mobility between sectors.
The selected person will also take part in Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme, which coordinates, develops, and monitors the qualification of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at the Natural Resources Institute Finland.
The main duties and key responsibilities of the Researcher Scientist, postdoc, will be to study the impact of crop diversification, including grasslands, and soil amendments on the agro-biodiversity, yield production and the suppression of plant diseases based on field experiments. The Research Scientist will carry out data analyses and report and publish the results of long-term field experiments. The work will also involve project management work such as participation in funding applications in collaboration with other scientists.
The task will provide you a chance to work in an interdisciplinary environment and develop your skills in plant health and grassland research within the Natural Resources and Production Systems Units of Luke.

Our expectations of the applicant
To be successful in this role, you will need knowledge of soil microbiology and plant production research methods. You will also need experience in statistical analysis of field trial data.
As an applicant, you have
• recently completed a doctorate (typically no more than 5 years ago) in soil microbiology or in another relevant discipline
• demonstrated ability to publish in high quality peer-reviewed publication forums
• strong skills in experimental research and methodology of microbiology
• experience in application of soil microbiological research methods and analyses of field trial data
• excellent written and oral English skills
• ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other researchers and experts
• ability and willingness to work independently and learn new skills
We will also consider it an advantage if you have experience in one or more of the following topics: agroecology, root research or crop production and nutrient cycles.
