Luke is looking for a postdoc for a 3-year position in the Plant Production group. The focus of the position is to publish existing data and implement on-going research of diverse farming practices (crop rotation, catch- and pre-crop and mixtures).

This postdoc position is part of Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes in Finland. The programme is funded from the Finnish government's multi-annual research and development (R&D) funding plan. The programme recruits 85 new postdoctoral researchers to 12 Finnish government research institutes between 2025 and 2028. The aim of the Programme is to strengthen RDI competence in areas important to society and business. Postdoctoral researcher will conduct goal-oriented high-level research at the interface between the academic community, industry, and administration. The Programme supports postdoctoral researcher’s networking and mobility between sectors.

The selected person will also take part in Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme, which coordinates, develops, and monitors the qualification of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at the Natural Resources Institute Finland.

The main duty and key responsibility of the Researcher Scientist, postdoc, is to publish data of crop rotation, pre- and catch-crop and intercropping studies together with Luke’s crop scientist. The research will be carried out in collaboration with crop scientist and stakeholders. The work also includes participation in funding applications and in field trial activities (observations, measurements, phenotyping) of on-going research projects.

The nature of the task requires willingness to collaborate with other scientist, courage to present one’s own ideas and views and readiness to work in the field and greenhouse. In this task, you have a chance to work together with key crop scientist and gain experience on publishing, experimental research and applying research funding. There is also possibility to collaborate with stakeholders and customers.

Our expectations of the applicant

As an applicant, you have
• recently completed a doctorate (typically no more than 5 years ago) in one of the following disciplines: crop science, plant pathology, plant physiology, biology or in another relevant discipline
• demonstrated ability to publish in high quality peer-reviewed publication forums
• strong skills in experimental research (field or greenhouse) related with crop science
• experience in boreal crop production
• excellent written and oral English
• ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other researchers, field technicians, stakeholders and customers
• ability and willingness to work independently and learn new skills
• a driving licence

We will also consider it an advantage if you have experience in one or more of the following fields: special crops, roots, plant pathology, plant physiology, water and nutrient use efficiency, climate change or nutritional value of yield.
