The Faculty of Built Environment (BEN) at Tampere University focuses on high-level scientific and applied research in architecture and civil engineering, as well as education related to these fields.

The faculty's research covers various aspects of the built environment, and research groups collaborate both nationally and internationally.
The Faculty of Built Environment consists of two units: architecture and civil engineering. The faculty's facilities on the Hervanta campus house a unique research infrastructure: it consists of several research infrastructures, with the heart being a construction hall of over 2,000 square meters. This hall is the only one of its kind in Finland and offers several laboratory spaces with equipment for studying various structures.
We are looking for a Staff Scientist to lead the development and daily activities of our laboratories. The aim is to strengthen the required expertise in developing and keeping up these unique research facilities.
Job description
Staff Scientists are academic personnel who are responsible for specialist activities related to research, providing support to teaching and research staff. The responsibilities of Staff Scientists involve the development and use of research infrastructures and specialist research equipment. Their individual job descriptions are defined in relation to the University’s strategic needs and include teaching, research and the provision of services.
The diverse operations of our infrastructure at Tampere University require a devoted Staff Scientist to run day-to-day operations on-site, and to represent the infrastructures while interacting with research communities and university management.

Civil Engineering unit at Tampere University has a unique research infrastructure: it consists of five research laboratories, with the heart being a construction hall of over 2,000 square meters. We offer the ability to work with several laboratory spaces with equipment for studying various structures with world-renowned scholars, an extensive network of societal and industrial collaboration partners. Tampere University also offers great opportunities for researchers to develop their careers in an international setting.
The position will be filled on a permanent basis. The appointment is expected to commence as soon as possible, as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all new employees.
The salary will be based on the job demand and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of Staff Scientist is placed on the job demand level 6. The minimum starting salary will range between 4400 - 4700 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed depending upon experience and/or performance.
