Project Assistant (Prae-Doc)

At the Institute of Structural Engineering/Research Unit Steel Structures, TU Wien is offering a position as Project Assistant (Prae-Doc) limited to expected 2 years for 40 hours/week. An extension to 4 years is being considered, depending on the third-party project funding. Expected start: September 2025.

Tasks:

  • Participation in research projects in the field of data-driven digital twins of transport infrastructure elements
  • Deepening scientific knowledge in the field of FE modelling and digital twinning of structures
  • Writing scientific publications
  • Participation in academic teaching in the research area of steel and composite structures and supervision of students
  • Partizipation in scientific events
  • Assistance in organizational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • A master's degree or diploma in a relevant subject
  • Advanced knowledge of FE modelling of structures, as well as expertise and relevant experience in the application of FE programs (ABAQUS)
  • Skills in scientific working
  • Profound German and English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Interest in research and in working with students
  • Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills and creative thinking

The position is initially limited to a period of two years, with the possibility of extending the period of employment to up to four years given a positive evaluation and third-party funding. Independently of the period of employment, candidates have the opportunity to write a dissertation. Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3,714,80/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week.
