The Department of Marketing in the Faculty of Business and Economics has the following full-time or part-time (80 to 100%) vacancy: Principal research fellow in the field of marketing
Position
As a principal research fellow, you will be part of the Academic Assistant Staff (Dutch: Assisterend Academisch Personeel, AAP). You will spend at least 50% of your working time on academic research. In addition, you will actively contribute to education and service activities.
Research
- You carry out high-quality academic research in the broad field of Marketing, in line with the expertise and interests of the research group (consult the profile at http://www.uantwerpen.be/marketing).
- You should contribute to attracting (inter)national research funding by writing and submitting research proposals to FWO, VLAIO and/or Horizon Europe.
- You will report on the results of your research and produce academic publications, preferably in journals included in the (Social) Science Citation Index.
- You will assist in the coordination of ongoing research projects and the activities of the research group.
- You will support PhD students in the preparation of their PhD theses.
Education
- You will provide support with teaching and also teach high-quality academic classes yourself. The exact teaching assignment will be determined in consultation with the department. You will be teaching 2 or 3 course units, depending on the appointment rate, in English or Dutch. For example, you could teach Marketing Business Game (1st semester, 3rd bachelor, 35 students) and the Bachelor thesis Marketing (1st and 2nd semester, 15 students).
- You will provide teaching support for other course units of the Marketing department (e.g. Principles of Marketing).
- You will supervise students and Master dissertations.
- Your teaching role will evolve along with the study programmes.
Services
- You will play an active role in the academic and societal service provision of the Department of Marketing, such as science communication to a broad audience or reviewing scientific papers.
Profile
- You hold a PhD in business economics, management, communication sciences, or (applied) psychology, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies. You have relevant research experience and can present scientific publications in the field of marketing.
- Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. Relevant teaching experience would be an advantage.
- As soon as you take on teaching duties as a course unit coordinator, you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction. The University of Antwerp supports international staff members through an integration trajectory and offers tailor-made language coaching in compliance with Flanders’ statutory language regulations.
- You are able to carry out your work and achieve your objectives with a high degree of independence.

What we offer
- We offer an appointment of 100% as a principal research fellow for a period of three years. A lesser % is possible in consultation with the research group.
- Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a principal research fellow (Academic Assistant Staff, AAP). If you would work part time, your salary will be calculated proportionally on the basis of your employment percentage.
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- The planned start date is September 1, 2025 or as soon as possible after that date.
- You will do most of your work at the City campus (Stadscampus) of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
