American University in Bulgaria (AUBG)

AUBG is a small residential liberal arts college nestled in the mountains of Bulgaria with an outstanding international faculty serving 1000 students from over 40 different countries. Our language of instruction is English and we offer a full range of majors on a modern campus. We participate in student exchanges with US institutions and with European universities through the ERASMUS program. Founded in 1991, AUBG is proud of its many accomplishments and of the role it has played in the development of the region. Many of our graduates have continued their education at prestigious universities in the United States and Europe, while others have made important marks in the private and public sectors in the region and in positions with top global organizations.

The AUBG is located in Blagoevgrad, a quiet university town located at the foot of the gorgeous Rila and Pirin mountains, close to the Greek, Serbian, and Macedonian borders, and just 100 km south of the capital Sofia. Blagoevgrad provides a convenient location for faculty to attend conferences across Europe. Ski resorts, mineral water springs, and Greek beaches are within short driving distance. Blagoevgrad enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters, often with little snowfall. Faculty and students enjoy Blagoevgrad’s many outdoor cafes and restaurants. The university provides a complete compensation package and assists faculty transitions to the new location.
