About the position

At the University of Agder, a permanent 100% position is available as associate professor / professor in developmental psychology. The position is affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, psychology academic group. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

The faculty currently consists of four departments: the Department of health and nursing sciences, the Department of nutrition and public health, the Department of sport science and physical education, and the Department of psychosocial Health. The psychology academic group is established under the Department of psychosocial Health. The group is responsible for developing and establishing a new professional study program in psychology at the University of Agder and thereby strengthening research activity in psychology. The faculty hosts both research groups and research centers relevant to various areas of expertise within psychology.

With this position, the faculty aims to strengthen research and educational competence in developmental psychology. In this context, developmental psychology is defined as the scientific study of both typical and atypical changes over time in individuals’ behavior, emotions, cognition, and social relationships.

Responsibilities

Relevant tasks include academic and coordination responsibility for courses in developmental psychology, as well as teaching, skills training, clinical supervision, and guidance of students in the professional psychology program. Teaching may also be required in other study programs where developmental psychology is included, as well as in continuing and further education for psychologists.

It is further expected that the person appointed will engage in research and development work and contribute to strengthening the faculty’s research activity in developmental psychology.

Supervision of PhD candidates may also be relevant, depending on the applicant’s qualifications.

Required qualifications

For appointment as associate professor, a master’s degree or professional degree in psychology, and a PhD in a relevant field with a dissertation on a topic within developmental psychology are required. The applicant must also be an active researcher in the field, and their research and development work in developmental psychology must be described in the application.

The criteria of employment are pursuant to the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts. 

Criteria for educational competence for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor at UiA.

The working language at the University of Agder is Norwegian. The person appointed must be proficient in Norwegian/another Scandinavian language, or English. Good written and oral proficiency in English is required. UiA will facilitate participation in Norwegian language courses. Permanent employees are expected to be proficient in Norwegian within three years.

Applicants must be able to document research results within developmental psychology.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1013 Professor, NOK 900 000 - 990 000 gross salary per year, or code 1011 Associate Professor, NOK 800 000 - 900 000 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
